So, the Month of Us has ended, as has Willete’s Joy of Love class, which prompted me to focus on my husband in a way I haven’t for years. The assignments were simple enough, highlighting “what they wear, “passions and hobbies,” and “routines” among other bits of life that when collaged become surprisingly revelatory. Most of all, I’m appreciative for the mindfulness these classes inspire, but I also picked up some technical tricks. Willette does a great job of breaking them down to be less overwhelming.
Although I tried in the beginning, I wasn’t able to photograph Papa G every day; evening meltdowns, business trips, and forgetfulness quickly derailed my efforts. Still, I took more shots of that man in the last month than I have in the last year, and with considerably more purpose and reflection.
Here are a few:
Willette’s next free class is The Joy of Luck. I’m planning to sign up for this one as well, thinking that it will be something of a photographic gratitude journal.
